Guest Bath

The tile in the guest bath is done. Looks pretty good. The house is a bee-hive of activity these days. Today, there were 5 different crews working on the master shower, living room lights, foyer fixtures, paint texture touch-up and the AC. It should be ready to close in less than a month. Needless to say, we're ready now.

Kitchen Update

The kitchen is getting close. The island is in and stained. You'll notice that the counter top for the island is a lighter granite with darker cabinets while the back counter tops are dark with light cabinets. We are having the back cabinets trimmed with an antique glaze (outlined in dark stain) to help complete the look. The vent hood frame is also in, as well as the overhead lighting (looks very cool up close). And if you look very closely, you'll see a small Ham in the bottom right hand corner of the photo.

Outside Grill Takes Shape

The base of the outside grill is almost done. We're hopefully less than 1 month away from completion, and all the details are going well. The mail order Napoleon Grill is already at the contractors' shop, and will be installed just before closing. I hope to be grilling before Christmas.

Front of House - No Yard

The front of the house is almost complete. They still have to put in the front walkway and replace our front door (it was stolen a few weeks ago). I'm not sure when we'll get a front yard, but I look forward to having a yard, and not a mud pit (it's rained a lot recently)

Kitchen - early stages

Most of the cabinetry is installed in the kitchen. You can see the island off on the left, but it hasn't been put in place yet.

Iron & Wood Trim Work

In these two pictures, you can see some of the wood trim work, and the iron work around the stairs and upstairs landing.

Stucco & Stone

The Stucco is almost complete. Depending on the light, it's an off white with some yellow tint. In this photo, you can also see the stone installed at the front of the house. We decided to use the back mortar installation which means that no mortar is placed between the stone...they are placed directly together.

Inside Photos

A couple of photos from inside the house. One of the Pex plumbing hub - I'm sure the plumbers love running this tubing rather than copper. Next picture is from the garage door looking toward the door into the house. You can see that some of the dry wall is up and the foam insulation in the ceiling. Final photo is the looking at the insulation in the dining room. You can see the part of the window as well.

The dry wall is almost completely done, and they're working on the stucco as well. Next step is the wall textures and cabinetry.

Back of House - Porch

Top photo is a view of the back of the house. The guest bedroom is the window on the left and the rest is the back porch. The bottom photo shows the back porch.

Weatherproof Structure

View of the front shows the roof is now done and the elevation has shown its face. Hard to believe, but we actually got delayed by a few heavy showers (after a month + of drought). Getting the roof on gives the green light to the electrical, plumbing and other interior construction. The windows are also installed, so it's a virtual heat box.

Long Distance View

View from the other end of Ossineke. The culvert in the foreground is our neighbors. Only 2 other lots have finished homes on our block of the street. No other lots are under construction.

Framing Almost Complete #2

This view is the side of the house. The garage is behind the dumpster and the guest bedroom is the 1st floor towards the back of the house. The Media room is above the guest room and you can see the porch roof at the very back.

Framing Almost Complete

One week after the previous photo, the profile of the house has taken shape as they finish up the framing. The construction has started to attract the few neighbors we have. We met a few of them on the trip and received plenty of compliments on the house.

Ossineke View

Although you can barely see the corner of the house on the left of the photo, it's a good view of Ossineke, the street that runs down the long side of the property.

Starting To Take Shape

Once the slab was poured, the structure went up so fast. In this picture, the 1st floor framing is done and the 2nd floor is getting started. The garage is on the right and the front door is directly behind the sign.

Ready to Go

This picture was taken from the street at the front of the property. The trees in the foreground will be in our front yard.

Lot Clearing

The lot clearing on the land began in June. We took out most pines 6" and smaller and the trees that had to be moved for the foundation. We got to keep about 8 oaks in the front yard, but we did have to take down two 40' spring oaks - very sad. The sign out front is from our builder - Zac Murtha Homes.
